Creating a Safe and Secure Video Game Library

Have you made copies of your video games? Perhaps you have amassed a library of hundreds of video games. You may even have games for multiple brands of hardware and formats. If so, you have probably experienced the frustration of losing a favorite game because of damage or loss and having to spend a lot of money to replace the game – if you can.  

If you do not already have reliable backup software to copy video games, your gaming library is probably at risk. When you buy a video game, you should create a game backup right away, while the video game performance and files are operating at their peak.  

Store your backup video game in a clean, dry environment, and use an alphabetical or thematic organizational structure so you can find the games easily. Some programs that copy video games do not copy over all encrypted data so your settings may be different when you run the copy on the backup copy. Be sure you write down appropriate instructions for any specialized run instructions or other information you will need to play the game on your backup software. You should also write down or copy the product key and license information from the original video game so you have it if you have to call the manufacturer for support.  

Some zealous gamers will only loan backup copies of their video games to others, never letting the original copy out of their site. Remember, if you do loan copies to others, you cannot charge for these copies or you are violating the copyright laws and the terms and conditions that regulate the use of software created to backup video games. 

If you buy your games, use software to backup video games, label video games with appropriate instruction and information and store your games in a safe place and an organized manner, you will save money and time and you will always be able to find and play that favorite game when you are in the mood!
